Search for Squarespace themes and you meet two kinds of pages: marketplaces listing hundreds of templates with a paragraph each, and template makers describing their own work as "stunning" without ever saying what you are actually paying for.
This article does neither. We design premium Squarespace templates for a living, and we would rather show you exactly what a premium template is, what it is not, and how our five compare — so that if one fits your business you can see it plainly, and if none does, you leave knowing what to look for elsewhere.
What are SQSP themes?
SQSP themes are premium Squarespace templates designed by SQSP Agency — a London-based, Squarespace Circle Gold Partner web-design agency working with service businesses across the UK, US, Europe and Australia. Five themes are live: Meridian, Verdant, Morrow, Basalt and Stellar. Each is a complete, multi-page Squarespace 7.1 website built for a specific kind of service business, sold for £299 one-time with a full live demo you can explore before paying anything.
One point of vocabulary before anything else, because it trips people up. Squarespace's official word is template. "Theme" is the vocabulary most of us carry over from WordPress or Shopify — but on Squarespace the two words describe exactly the same thing. Whichever you searched for, you are in the right place; we use both here because both are true.
Every SQSP theme is delivered as a Squarespace site invitation to your email within 24 hours of checkout, usually much sooner. You publish it on your own Squarespace subscription, and you own everything — there are no plugins, no ongoing fees to us, and nothing that breaks when Squarespace updates.
What makes a Squarespace template "premium"?
Not the price tag. A paid template can be nothing more than a free-template layout with different fonts — and plenty are. Having built websites for service businesses for years before productising that work into templates, we hold a premium template to four tests:
- It is designed around one business model. A therapist's website and a landscaper's website do not need the same pages, the same tone, or the same enquiry path. A premium template starts from how one kind of business actually wins clients — not from a generic layout with the word "Therapy" typed into the demo.
- The page architecture is finished, not sketched. Service pages, proof, pricing or fees, legal pages, a contact flow — the full page list a real business needs, in a deliberate order, with the sections already structured on each page.
- There is a conversion path on every page. Each page answers one visitor question and ends with one obvious next step. This is the part free templates never decide for you, and the part most sites get wrong.
- Search engines can read it. One H1 per page, a heading hierarchy that reflects the content, image placements chosen with loading speed in mind. A template cannot do your Squarespace SEO for you — but it can make good SEO easy to implement instead of a retrofit.
| Free Squarespace template | Premium template (SQSP theme) | |
|---|---|---|
| Designed for | A broad category — "services", "portfolio", "personal" | One specific business model, e.g. a therapy practice or a landscaping firm |
| Page list | A handful of demo pages you restructure yourself | The full architecture a real business needs — service pages, proof, legal, contact flow |
| Conversion path | Left entirely to you | A deliberate next step designed into every page |
| Copy structure | Placeholder text written to flatter the layout | Section-by-section prompts that mirror how your clients decide |
| Cost | Included with your subscription | £299 one-time, on your own subscription |
| Best when | You enjoy design decisions and have time to make them | You want the decisions made by a designer who knows your industry |
Both run on the same Squarespace 7.1 platform — what you are buying is finished design judgement, not extra features.
If you are still deciding whether a template is the right route at all — versus adapting a free one or commissioning a custom build — our guide on how to choose a Squarespace template covers that decision honestly, including when a template is the wrong answer.
The five SQSP themes at a glance
All five are Squarespace 7.1, all are £299 one-time, and every one has a complete live demo linked from its page — not screenshots, the actual working site.
| Theme | Built for | Page types | Notable inclusions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meridian | Consultants, coaches, law & accountancy firms | Nine | Approach page, expertise hub, four service pages, journal |
| Verdant | Landscapers & garden designers | Seven | Portfolio, four project pages, free-quote form |
| Morrow | Therapists, counsellors & psychologists | Ten | Four specialism pages, journal, legal pack |
| Basalt | Interior design studios & architects | Seven | Image-led portfolio, FAQ, privacy policy |
| Stellar | Wedding photographers | Seven | Portfolio, investment page, enquiry flow |
Compare all five, with live demos, on the premium Squarespace templates page.
Meridian — for consultants, coaches and law firms
Meridian is the theme for businesses that sell judgement: consultants, coaches, law firms, accountancy practices. Its structure reflects how those clients are actually won — an approach page that explains how working together goes, an expertise hub, four dedicated service pages, and a journal for the thinking that earns trust before the first call. Nine page types in all, in a restrained, editorial register that lets credentials do the talking.

Verdant — for landscapers and garden designers
Verdant is built around the way landscaping work is bought: people want to see finished gardens, then get a price without friction. So it leads with a portfolio, backs it with four full project pages that show transformations properly, and ends every path at a free-quote form. If your best salesperson is your last job, this is the structure that puts it to work.

Morrow — for therapists and counsellors
Morrow is the largest of the five at ten page types, because a private practice genuinely needs them: four specialism pages so each kind of client finds a page about them, a journal, and a full legal pack — the privacy and policy pages a therapy practice cannot responsibly launch without. The tone is deliberately calm and low-friction; the enquiry path is designed for someone who may have been hesitating for weeks.

Basalt — for interior design studios
Basalt gives interior designers and architects what their work deserves: large, unhurried imagery with the interface receding around it. Seven page types, including the FAQ and privacy pages studios usually bolt on late, structured so that the portfolio sells while the words qualify. It is the most visually restrained of the five — on purpose.

Stellar — for wedding photographers
Stellar answers the two questions every engaged couple arrives with — is this our style? and can we afford it? — without making them dig. A gallery-led portfolio carries the style answer; a dedicated investment page handles pricing with the transparency couples now expect; and the enquiry flow is built for people planning the most photographed day of their lives from a phone.

Free, premium or custom: which route is right?
An honest seller tells you when not to buy. The decision has three routes, and each is right for someone:
- A free Squarespace template is the right call when your budget is the subscription and nothing else, you enjoy making design decisions, and your business fits a general layout. Start there, and upgrade the structure later if the site starts earning.
- A premium template is the right call when one exists for your business model. You get weeks of design decisions — architecture, conversion path, tone — for £299, and you keep the low running cost of a standard Squarespace site.
- A custom build is the right call when your brand system, structure or ambitions genuinely exceed what any template should try to hold — that is what our Squarespace website design service exists for, and we will tell you plainly if a £299 theme would serve you just as well.
The trap to avoid is the middle path nobody sells: weeks of your own evenings spent slowly rebuilding a free template into what a premium one already is. Your time is the most expensive material on the project — spend it on the words and the work, not the scaffolding.
How buying an SQSP theme works
The mechanics matter more than most template sellers let on, so here they are, start to finish:
- Explore the live demo. Every theme's page links to a complete working demo site — click through every page, on your phone as well as your laptop, before paying anything.
- Check out once. £299 one-time. No subscription to us, no recurring fees, no upsell mechanics inside the template.
- Receive your site invitation. Your Squarespace template invitation and setup guide arrive by email within 24 hours of payment — usually much sooner. The template arrives as its own Squarespace site, so an existing live site is never touched while you build.
- Make it yours. Replace the copy and imagery with your own, following the structure the template gives you. Everything remains editable — these are starting points designed to be customised, not locked layouts.
- Publish on your own subscription. You own the site, the subscription and everything on it. If you do not have one yet, you can start a free Squarespace trial first — no card required.

Frequently asked questions
What are SQSP themes?
SQSP themes are premium Squarespace templates designed by SQSP Agency, a London-based Squarespace Circle Gold Partner. Five are live — Meridian, Verdant, Morrow, Basalt and Stellar — each a complete Squarespace 7.1 website built for a specific kind of service business, sold for £299 one-time with a full live demo to explore before buying.
What is the difference between a Squarespace theme and a Squarespace template?
Nothing — they are the same thing. Squarespace's official word is template; "theme" is the vocabulary people carry over from WordPress and Shopify. Whichever word you search, you are looking at the same product: a pre-designed starting structure for a Squarespace site.
What makes a Squarespace template premium?
A genuinely premium template is designed around one business model rather than restyled from a generic layout. The markers: a page architecture that matches how that business wins clients, a deliberate enquiry path on every page, heading structure search engines can read, and imagery direction — not just different fonts and colours on the same demo.
Are premium Squarespace templates worth it over free ones?
When one matches your business closely, yes. Squarespace's free templates are competent generalists you then restructure; a premium template ships with the page list, section order and conversion path already decided for your industry. You are buying finished design decisions — typically weeks of work — for a fraction of a custom build.
Which SQSP theme should I choose for my business?
Choose by business model, not by look: Meridian for consultants, coaches, law and accountancy firms; Verdant for landscapers and garden designers; Morrow for therapists, counsellors and psychologists; Basalt for interior design studios and architects; Stellar for wedding photographers. If none fits, a custom build is the honest answer.
Do SQSP themes work on any Squarespace plan?
They are built on Squarespace 7.1, the current platform every new subscription uses, and published on your own Squarespace plan — you own the site, the subscription and everything on it. No plugins, third-party page builders or ongoing fees from us are involved.
Can I use a premium template if my Squarespace site is already live?
Yes. Your template arrives as a separate Squarespace site invitation, so you build it out alongside your existing site without touching it. When the new site is ready, you connect your domain to it — visitors never see the work in progress.
Where can I buy premium Squarespace templates?
From Squarespace's own marketplace, from large template marketplaces, or directly from design studios. Buying from a studio means the designer who built the template stands behind it. Our five SQSP themes are sold at sqspagency.com/squarespace-premium-templates, each with a full live demo linked from its sales page.
Where to go from here
If one of the five sounded like it was describing your business, the fastest way to be sure is the live demo — every theme's page links to the complete working site, and ten minutes of clicking will tell you more than any comparison table.
Browse all five, with demos and current pricing, on the premium Squarespace templates page. And if none of them fits — or you are not sure whether a template or a custom build is the right call for you — ask us. We sell both, so you will get a straight answer rather than a pitch.
